A Sweet Year with a Low Glycemic Index Natural Sugar

Our new addition to our Superfoods category is a natural, healthy & aromatic sweetener – perfect for your CNY cooking and baking!

Nature’s Superfoods’ Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is 100% natural, unrefined, unbleached, preservative-free, and contains higher nutritional value than all commercially available sweeteners.

Traditionally made from the fragrant sweet nectar of the coconut palm (cocos nucifera) flower, this ecologically-friendly sweetener boasts a low glycemic index of only 35 (much lower than the GI of raw or brown cane sugar!), making it diabetic-friendly and an ideal sweetener for the health- and weight-conscious.

Use super-versatile coconut palm sugar as a 1:1 replacement for regular cane sugar in smoothies, hot/cold beverages, cooking and baking! It tastes very much like brown sugar, has a wonderful caramel-like flavour as well as the crystal-like consistency of granulated sugar.

RECIPE 1: Coconut Melon Smoothie (serves 2-4)
16 ounces honey-dew melon, seeded, peeled and diced
Coconut milk or coconut ice cream, quantity as desired
1½ cups crushed ice
2 tablespoons organic coconut palm sugar
Pinch of salt

Place melon, coconut milk, ice, sugar and salt in the blender and blend until smooth.

RECIPE 2: Tomato and Vegetable Curry (healthy and yummy) – serves 4
1 tsp virgin coconut oil
2 onions (chopped)
3 crushed garlic (cloves)
1 tbsp gingerroot (chopped)
1 tbsp red curry paste
1 tbsp tomato paste
Vegetables (own preferences and quantity)
400ml coconut milk (reduced-fat)
500g tomatoes (peeled and chopped)
2 tbsp soy sauce
¼ cup coriander (chopped)
1 tbsp coconut palm sugar crystals

Heat the oil in a large saucepan or pot and sauté the onion, garlic and ginger gently until the onion is soft. Stir in the curry paste and tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes, stirring. Add the vegetables and cook for 3 minutes until they are coated in the spice mix and almost coooked. Stir in the cocnout milk and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes, soy sauce, coriander and coconut palm sugar. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve it hot.
